Getting your attention: notifications in myChat24 for Windows

Edit

myChat24 for Windows keeps running when you close its window, so messages and calls reach you all day. Settings → Get my attention decides how it makes sure you notice a new message: a red count on the taskbar and on the tray icon, a flashing taskbar button, a blinking tray icon, a sound, pop-ups that stay on screen, and reminders.

What you need

  • myChat24 for Windows, version 1.0.20 or newer. Download it from My Profile → Apps (see My Profile). An older version shows "A new myChat24 is available" when it opens: press Update.

Choose how much attention

  1. Open myChat24 and click Settings (the gear).
  2. Find Get my attention, near the top.
  3. Pick Gentle, Clear or Insistent. Then turn single signals on or off underneath if you like: the card then says "Your own mix of the switches below".
  • Gentle: a red count on the taskbar and on the tray icon. Nothing moves or makes a sound.
  • Clear, the setting you start with: the count, a sound, and the taskbar button flashes until you look.
  • Insistent: every signal below, until you look, with a reminder every few minutes.

Which messages: "For"

  • Everything, the setting you start with: every message in a chat or a record channel that you have not muted.
  • All chats: direct messages and groups. Record notifications still pop up, but quietly.
  • Direct messages: groups and record notifications still pop up, quietly.

A message that mentions you (for example "@Jane Smith") always gets your attention, whatever you choose. A muted chat never does. To quiet one busy record channel instead, use its star: see Chat, Record Channels and Notifications.

How it works

How myChat24 gets your attention: a new message arrives; if it is in For (everything, all chats or direct messages, or it mentions you) your signals start: the count on the taskbar and the tray icon, a sound, and the flash, blink, edge and reminders you switched on; if not, it pops up quietly. Once you look, everything that moves stops; the count stays until the messages are read.

The signals, one by one

  • Red badges: unread counts are red. Turn it off for the theme's blue.
  • Count on the taskbar and the tray icon: the number of messages waiting, on the myChat24 button in the taskbar, and a red dot on the tray icon by the clock.
  • Flash the taskbar button until I look: the button flashes, then stays lit until you open myChat24.
  • Blink the tray icon until I look: for when the window is closed and myChat24 waits in the tray.
  • Play a sound: with the pop-up.
  • Keep pop-ups on screen until I dismiss them: instead of going away after a few seconds.
  • Remind me until I look: the pop-up comes back every 2, 5, 10 or 15 minutes with "Still unread", together with the other signals you switched on.
  • Light up the edge of the window: a red frame round myChat24, for when it sits on a second screen.
  • Closing keeps myChat24 on the taskbar: the close button minimizes the window instead of hiding it in the tray, so the count and the flash stay in view.

Until you look

Everything that moves stops as soon as you look: when you click into the myChat24 window, or when you read the messages on your phone. A pop-up that was kept on screen goes too. The count stays until the messages are read.

Try it

Click Send me a test in the card, then switch to another window. Five seconds later a test message arrives the way your settings say.

Keep the tray icon in view

Windows 11 hides new tray icons under the ^ arrow by the clock, where a dot or a blink is easy to miss. Click Taskbar settings… in the card, open Other system tray icons, and turn myChat24 on.

Good to know

  • Do not disturb. While Windows' Do not disturb is on (it also turns itself on during presentations and full-screen apps), pop-ups and their sound wait quietly in the notification centre. The count, the flash and the blink still show.
  • Closing the window hides myChat24 in the tray, where it keeps receiving messages and calls. A window in the tray has no taskbar button, so the tray icon is then what shows the dot and the blink. To keep the taskbar button, turn on Closing keeps myChat24 on the taskbar.
  • These settings are for this computer. The phone app has its own notifications.

What's new, after each update

The first time myChat24 opens after an update, it shows What's new in myChat24: what changed since the version you had. Click Got it to close it. To read it again, open Settings and click What's new under About.
