myWork24 has a chat panel that lives on every page, plus a dedicated conversation attached to each record (like a Work Order or Move Order) so its whole history is in one place. This article shows you how to find those conversations, message people directly, and control what you get notified about.
The floating chat widget
Look for the floating chat button in the bottom corner of any page while you're logged in. Click it to slide open the chat panel — it's there on every screen, so you never have to leave what you're doing to check a message.
The panel has a few tabs across the top:
- Chats — your one-to-one and group conversations.
- Notifications — the system messages from record channels you follow.
- Help — the Knowledge Base (more on that below).
Each tab has a small search icon beside its title. Click it to type and filter the list — for example "Search in chats" or "Search in notifications" — so you can quickly find a person or a record thread.
On a phone the panel opens full-screen, and your device Back button just closes the chat instead of navigating away from the page you were on.
Record channels — every record has its own conversation
Most records in myWork24 — a Work Order, a Move Order, a Task, and more — automatically get their own chat channel. As the record moves through its lifecycle, myWork24 posts updates there (created, claimed, collected, dropped, accepted, completed, cancelled, and so on). That channel becomes the record's running commentary and audit trail.
You'll see these updates land in your Notifications tab. Each one carries an Open link that takes you straight to the record it's about, so you never have to hunt for the reference number.
When a record reaches a final state (for example a move that's fully completed), its channel is archived and drops out of your active Notifications list to keep it tidy.
Opening a record's channel from its page
On a record's own page, look at the title at the top — the record number usually has a small comments icon (a speech-bubbles symbol) right next to it. Click it to jump straight into that record's chat channel, with Back returning you to your Notifications tab.
Beside that you may also see a share icon. Use it to send the record to a colleague as a direct message with a link — handy when you want someone else to take a look.
Direct messages to a person
Wherever a person's name appears on a record — the creator, the assignee, the manager — you'll often see a small person / comment icon next to their name. Click it to open a private one-to-one chat with them.
You won't see this icon next to your own name — there's no messaging yourself.
You can also start a fresh direct or group chat from the Chats tab using the New Direct and New Group buttons at the top.
The subscription star and notify levels
Next to the chat icons you'll find a star — this is how you follow a channel and choose how loudly it notifies you. Click it to cycle through the levels:
- Not watching (grey outline) — you're not subscribed.
- All (filled star) — you get notified about every message in the channel.
- System-only (half-filled) — you're only pinged for the automatic system updates, not chit-chat.
- Mute (outlined in the highlight colour) — you stay a member but get no notifications.
Clicking again cycles back to not watching. Use the star to dial each channel up or down — for instance keep a Work Order you're responsible for on All, but drop a busy area channel to System-only so you still see new work without the noise.
Subscription is handled entirely by the star. There are no separate "Subscribe" buttons on record pages anymore.
The Help tab
The Help tab opens the myWork24 Knowledge Base right inside the chat panel, so you can look something up without opening another window. On many pages it shows a Suggested for this page block at the top, pointing you at articles relevant to whatever screen you're on. You can also browse the collections and search for any topic from there.
