A sticky note is the little yellow square on the edge of your monitor, minus the glue that gives up on a Tuesday. Write it in seconds, keep it in view while it matters, throw it away when it doesn't.
What a sticky note is for
- Quick. One click from any page, type, done. No form, no fields, and no Save button: it saves itself as you type.
- Yours alone. Nobody else can see your sticky notes: not your manager, not your team, not the person at the next desk. Write "call the bank" in peace.
- Short-lived. When it has done its job, bin it. One click.
- Pinned to a record, when you want. A note made from a work order, a shipment or a local receipt carries a link back to it, so it doubles as a bookmark.
What a sticky note is NOT (please read this part twice)
- It is not a task. If someone has to do something, by a date, and you want to know it got done, make a Task. A Task lands on that person's list, tells them about it, keeps the date and tells you when it is done. A sticky note does none of that. It will sit quietly on your screen while the deadline walks past. It will not chase anyone, and nobody else even knows it exists.
- It is not a document. Meeting minutes, a checklist the team keeps, anything with headings or a second author: write a page in My Documents, or in the project's Documents. Sticky notes are the back of the envelope, not the envelope's memoirs.
- It is not a shared workspace. If several people need to keep one text up to date, use a page, or the record's own chat.
The two-second test: for someone else, or due by a date? Task. Others will read it or add to it? Page. Just for you, just for now? Sticky note.
Make one
Three ways, each one click:
- From anywhere. Click My notes in the top bar (the sticky note icon), then the round + at the top of the screen, in the middle (on a phone, at the bottom). Give it a title and start writing.
- From a record. On a record's page (a work order, a local receipt, a sales shipment, a task, and so on), click the sticky note icon next to its number, beside the chat, share and star icons. The note opens titled with the record's type and number, for example Local receipt LR-00001628, with a tab on top that links back to the record.
- From a chat message. Point at a message and click the sticky note icon in its little toolbar, after Reply, Forward and React. The note is titled with who said it and what, and the message is copied in as a quote with the date. It stays there even if the message is later edited or deleted.
Pin a record
- One sticky note per record, for each person. When you already have one, the record's sticky note icon is filled in; click it and your note opens. An outline means you have none yet.
- The tab on top of the note names the record. Click it to go there. A tab for a chat message opens the chat at that message, scrolling back through the conversation if it is older.
- Use it to keep an eye on something: the work order you are chasing, the shipment waiting for a courier, the purchase order to check tomorrow. And remember the test above: if somebody else has to act, that is a Task, not a pin.
Pictures and voice
- Paste a screenshot straight into the text.
- Record a voice note: click into the text, then the microphone (Record a voice note). A big stop button covers the screen while you talk; click it, or press Escape, to stop and keep the clip. It lands in the text where your cursor was. Click it to play it.
- Read what was said. The company's own AI box writes each voice note out. Click the small text icon on the clip to read it without playing it; Copy takes the words and Insert puts them into the note. A machine wrote it, so it can mishear a word: the recording is the record.
- That is what the formatting toolbar is there for. It is not an invitation to write a novel.
Colour and priority
- In the open note's header, pick a colour (yellow, green, blue, purple, orange, red, or none) and a priority: one chevron for Low, two for Medium, three for High.
- New notes start at Low. Promote them when they earn it.
- Priority only orders your own notes. Nobody else sees it, and it never makes anything happen. (Did we mention Tasks?)
Move it, resize it
- Drag a sticky anywhere on your board.
- Click a sticky to open it in the middle of the screen. Drag the folded bottom-right corner to make it bigger or smaller; every note opens at that size from then on. Double-click the corner for the standard size.
Turned out to be work? Make it a task
- In the open note's header, Make it a task turns the note into a Task: it takes the note's text and its record, you choose who does it, then Make the task. The Task lands on that person's list and tells them, so nobody has to pass the message on.
- The note goes to the Bin and says which task it became, so nothing is lost and nothing is done twice.
Done with it? Bin it
- Click Bin this note (the bin icon) on the sticky or in the open note. One click, no questions, like the real thing.
- A note you opened from a record and never wrote in disappears on its own when you leave it.
- Changed your mind? Binned notes wait on the Notes page: open My notes, click All notes
and the Bin (the list button beside +), then Binned.
- Restore puts the note back on your board. If you have since made another note on the same record, Restore says so and names it: still one note per record.
- Delete for good asks first, then removes the note with its pictures and voice clips. Nobody can bring it back.
On your computer: myChat24 for Windows (version 2.0.0 and later)
- Sticky notes on the left rail lists your notes. New sticky note makes one; Bin, Restore and Delete for good work as they do on the web.
- Note to self is the first row of your Chats: type, paste or record, and send, like a chat with nobody. In Settings choose One sticky note that grows (each entry is added to one note, with the date) or A sticky note per message.
- The sticky note icon on a chat message works here too.
- A note with pictures or formatting opens as text you can add a line to. To change the formatting, use Open in myWork.
- Sticky notes are not copied into your synced My Documents folder: they live in myWork.
Quick answers
- Can my manager see my sticky notes? No. Nobody can.
- Can I give a sticky note to a colleague? No. If they need to do something, make a Task: it tells them. If they only need to read it, send it to them in chat.
- Can a sticky note remind me at 3 pm? No. A reminder with a time is a Task with a due date.
- Do sticky notes have numbers? No, just titles.
- I binned one by mistake. My notes, then All notes and the Bin, then Binned, then Restore.
