The full org chart (HR view)

Edit

What this guide covers

The Organigram under People > Human Resources opens the "Organization Chart" - the company-wide org chart, headed "Company Structure". It is the whole structure, not just one team. It's the same chart as the manager "My Team" view, but starting from the top of the organisation.

Who can open it: viewing needs HR read permission. The "Edit mode" toggle appears only if you also hold HR write permission.

What you see

A tree of departments drawn top-down, each card showing the department name, type and manager, with the people who sit under it. The toolbar gives you:

  • Filter departments… - type a name to highlight matching departments and dim the rest; the cross clears it.

  • Show orphans - departments with no parent that are not the root sit in a separate rail. This button brings that rail back if you have collapsed it, with a count.

  • Edit mode - HR write only; see below.

  • Add department - appears in Edit mode.

  • Set root… - HR write only; picks the department to treat as the chart's real root. Everything else without a parent goes to the orphan rail.

  • Manage Departments - a shortcut to the Departments tab of HR Settings.

Zoom controls sit on the chart itself: "Zoom out", "Fit to screen" and "Zoom in". The chart does not drag-to-pan or scroll-to-zoom; use the buttons, and scroll the card if the tree is bigger than the screen.

Click a department to open its side panel. It shows the manager (or the manager it inherits from a parent, and who is "Acting today" if a stand-in is set) and the list of employees in that department, each linking to their record. There is no double-click drill-down - the whole tree is always expanded.

Edit mode (HR write only)

With HR write permission, switch "Edit mode" on. The side panel then gains the editing controls:

  • A Manager picker to set or clear the department's manager.

  • Add sub-dept - create a department under this one.

  • Move… - choose a new parent department, or detach it to the orphan rail.

  • Delete - remove the department.

"Add department" on the toolbar creates a new top-level department. These are the same changes you can make on the Departments tab of HR Settings, shown visually. Without write permission the chart is view-only.

People are not moved here. An employee's department is set on their record - see Departments: build the structure and put people in them.

Changes here ripple everywhere: the reporting lines you set drive the manager-scoped screens (Manage hours, Manage schedules, Leave report) and who can approve whom.

Good to know

  • This is the whole company; the manager "My Team" chart (in Managers) is the same tool scoped to one manager's branch.

  • Structure lives in HR Settings too - the Departments tab and this chart edit the same data.

  • If a department seems to have vanished, check the orphan rail before assuming it was deleted.

  • Organigram: your team's structure at a glance - the manager-scoped "My Team" version.

  • HR Settings - organisation setup - the Departments tab that defines this structure.

  • Departments: build the structure and put people in them - creating departments and assigning people.
