A task only counts your time while it is In Progress. This page explains how to stop and restart that clock yourself, and what happens to your tasks when you clock out for lunch or at the end of the day.
Pause a task yourself
Need to stop for a while — waiting for a part, called to something urgent? Open the task and press Pause.
- The task goes back to Ready to start and its clock stops.
- The time you already worked is kept. Nothing is lost.
- The Start button now reads Resume. Press it when you carry on.
If you press Start on a task while another one is still running, myWork asks whether to pause the other one first. Your company may allow only one task in progress at a time; then starting a new task always pauses the one you were on.
When you clock out
If your company has switched this on, clocking out also pauses your tasks — so lunch and the night are never counted as work.
- When you clock out (at the fingerprint reader, or Clock Out on your dashboard), every task you have In Progress shows Paused — clocked out.
- The clock stops at the moment you clocked out, even if the reader takes a minute to send your scan through.
- The task's chat says so, for example: Paused — Thabo clocked out at 12:31.
When you clock back in
- The same day (after lunch): your tasks carry on by themselves from the moment you clocked back in. You do not have to do anything.
- The next day: nothing restarts by itself. Open the task and press Resume. The first job of the day is your choice — something else may be more urgent.
- If only one task may be in progress at a time, only the task you paused last carries on. Press Resume on the others when you get to them.
Rather choose yourself? Go to My Profile → Apps → Tasks when I clock in and switch off Carry on with my tasks when I clock back in. Your tasks then stay paused until you press Resume.
See your time
- On the task page, the right-hand panel shows Time worked (with running while the clock is on).
- The Time tab shows the total, the time per person, and every stretch of work: when it started, when it stopped, and why (Started, Paused, Paused at clock-out, Resumed on clock-in, Finished…).
If a task is passed to someone else
If your manager gives your task to someone else while you are working on it, your stretch of work ends there and stays yours. The task goes back to Ready to start for the new person, and their clock starts when they press Start. Each person is only ever measured on their own time.
Something looks wrong?
- My task did not pause when I clocked out. Check that your clock-out went through (your dashboard shows whether you are clocked in). Pausing at clock-out only happens if your company has switched it on.
- My task did not carry on after lunch. Check the profile setting above, and whether another task was already running. You can always press Resume.
- Still stuck? Tell your manager, and mention the task number (for example TASK-000285).
